Lease or Finance a Picosecond Laser: Rates, Term and Process

A picosecond laser is one of the larger investments for a studio, practice or clinic. Few pay cash: it is usually leased, taken on as a hire purchase or financed. This page explains what a picosecond laser costs per month, how leasing, hire purchase and financing differ, whether it works without a down payment, and how many treatments cover the monthly rate.

Our example is the PICOLO XL from SIACSKIN, a 280 ps picosecond laser for tattoo and pigment removal, from approx. €1,000/month. For comparison, we also mention the Q-switched lasers PICOLO L and PICOLO S. SIACSKIN finances through its own house bank, including for business start-ups. For tax questions, please consult your tax advisor.

Can you lease a picosecond laser?

Yes, a picosecond laser can be leased, acquired through hire purchase or financed like any other device used commercially. Instead of paying the purchase price in one go, you pay a fixed monthly rate over the agreed term. The device is with you from day one and earns a share of its rate with every treatment. SIACSKIN offers purchase, financing, leasing and hire purchase through its own house bank for the PICOLO XL and all other devices. In addition, SIACSKIN works with partners such as Sparkasse, Grenke and abcfinance.

How much does a picosecond laser cost per month?

The SIACSKIN PICOLO XL is available from approx. €1,000/month. The rate applies to a 60-month term, plus VAT and subject to creditworthiness. You can find the current net price on the product page. For comparison, the SIACSKIN Q-switch lasers: the PICOLO L is available from approx. €690/month, the PICOLO S as an entry-level device from approx. €130/month. Q-switch lasers work in the nanosecond range and usually need a few more sessions than a picosecond laser for the same tattoo.

What is the difference between leasing, hire purchase and financing?

The difference lies in who owns the device. With leasing, the leasing company remains the owner and you use the laser for a fixed rate. With hire purchase you also pay installments, and with the last installment the device becomes yours. With financing through a loan, you buy the device immediately and repay the loan plus interest. In everyday practice you will notice little of this: the device is in your practice and working. The differences show up in the balance sheet, in taxes and at the end of the contract. The best way to find out which form suits your business is to discuss it with your tax advisor.

Can I lease a picosecond laser without a down payment?

Yes, with SIACSKIN, leasing or financing is possible without a down payment on request. The entire amount is then spread across the monthly rates. A down payment is still worth considering: it lowers the monthly rate and can make the credit check decision easier. Whether to pay with or without a down payment depends mainly on your liquidity. Many businesses prefer to keep the money as a reserve for the start-up phase, for marketing and for staff.

What lease term is usual for a laser device?

Terms of 36 to 60 months are usual. SIACSKIN's rates are calculated over 60 months because that gives the lowest monthly rate. A shorter term means higher rates, but you are finished sooner and pay less interest overall. A picosecond laser is built for many years of operation. A term that is shorter than the device's useful life therefore makes economic sense: once the rates end, the laser keeps working without any further cost for the device itself.
