Buy a Carbon Peel Device: PICOLO S, L and XL Compared
Are you looking to buy a carbon peeling device and wondering which laser is enough and what it costs per month? This buying guide shows you how to recognize a suitable device, how PICOLO S, PICOLO L and PICOLO XL differ for carbon peeling, what a calculation can look like and what belongs on your checklist before ordering. How the treatment itself works, who it suits and how often it is repeated is explained in the guide Carbon peeling with the laser.
How carbon peeling works technically
Carbon peeling needs two things: a carbon mask and a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (Q-Switch) with 1064 nm. The thinly applied carbon lotion settles into the pore openings. The laser delivers its energy in extremely short nanosecond pulses, the carbon particles absorb the light and break apart. This releases sebum and loose skin cells from the pores, while the skin also receives a mild warming stimulus. What matters in a carbon peeling laser device is therefore true Q-switch operation, the 1064 nm wavelength and finely adjustable energy. An IPL or BBL device does not produce such short pulses and is not intended for this treatment.
How to recognize a suitable carbon peeling device
Use the table as a checklist for every offer. On the right are the values of the PICOLO S, the SIACSKIN entry-level device.
| Criterion | What to look for | How it is with the PICOLO S |
|---|---|---|
| Laser type | True Q-switch Nd:YAG laser, not a long-pulse light source | Q-switch Nd:YAG, nanosecond pulses |
| Wavelength | 1064 nm is a must for carbon peeling, additional wavelengths broaden your offering | 532, 755, 1064 and 1320 nm |
| Energy | Finely adjustable, because carbon peeling works with low energy | 10–2000 mJ |
| Frequency | Determines the working speed on the face | up to 10 Hz |
| Power | Consider the wattage and the energy range together | 1500 W |
| Shot allowance | Clarify before buying what applies afterwards | 5 million shots |
| Other applications | A device with several treatment areas is easier to keep busy | PMU removal, pigmentation disorders, pores, small tattoos |
| Marking | Ask to see the documents and marking | CE-marked under MDR |
PICOLO S, PICOLO L and PICOLO XL for carbon peeling
All three PICOLO lasers handle carbon peeling. They differ in what they can do beyond that and in the treatment volume they are built for.
| Feature | PICOLO S | PICOLO L | PICOLO XL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technology | Q-switch Nd:YAG, nanoseconds | Q-switch Nd:YAG, 3 ns, with Long Pulse | Picosecond 280 ps, with Long Pulse |
| Carbon peeling | Core application | in Genesis mode (up to 5000 mJ) and Multi-Pulse mode | with 1320 nm handpiece and Multi-Pulse mode |
| Power | 1500 W | 3500 W | 6500 W |
| Other focus areas | PMU removal, pigment, small tattoos | Tattoos incl. multicolored, pigment, redness, skin rejuvenation | Tattoos of all colors, pigment, skin rejuvenation, hair removal in Long Pulse |
| Cooling / design | compact, portable | Water, air, 600 W compressor | Quadruple cooling, 255 kg total weight |
| Example leasing rate | from approx. €130/month | from approx. €690/month | from approx. €1,000/month |
Which device suits which salon
PICOLO S: You are starting with laser treatments and want to offer carbon peeling, permanent makeup removal and pigment treatments. The device is compact, the rate is low, and you cover several in-demand treatments. More on PMU removal can be found under Removing permanent makeup.
PICOLO L: Carbon peeling should run alongside regular tattoo removal, including multicolored designs. The Genesis mode with up to 5000 mJ is designed for carbon peeling and skin rejuvenation, and the cooling for continuous operation.
PICOLO XL: Your focus is tattoo and pigment removal at the highest level, with carbon peeling running as an additional treatment. For a pure carbon peeling offering, the picosecond laser is not necessary. The difference between pulse durations is explained in the guide Picosecond laser or Q-switch, and the tattoo laser buying guide shows all three devices in a tattoo comparison.

Calculation: example with assumptions
The following calculation is an example with assumptions, not a statement about market prices. Plug in your own values.
| Item | Assumption |
|---|---|
| Device | PICOLO S, example leasing rate from approx. €130/month |
| Price per session | €80 net |
| Material per session | €5 (carbon lotion, hygiene supplies) |
| Contribution margin before labor time | €75 per session |
| Session duration | 20 to 30 minutes |
Under these assumptions, just 2 sessions a month already cover the example rate of the PICOLO S. Since carbon peeling is usually booked as a series of 3 to 6 sessions, a few clients are enough to carry the rate predictably. With the PICOLO L at approx. €690, it would take around 10 sessions under the same assumptions, but there tattoo and pigment treatments come on top. Labor time, space and electricity are not yet included in this example. You can run your own calculation in the price calculator.
Common mistakes when buying
- No clear pulse specification: If the data sheet gives no pulse duration in nanoseconds, it is unclear whether a true Q-switch is at work.
- Buying too small or too large: For carbon peeling alone you do not need a picosecond laser. But if you plan colorful tattoos, an entry-level device will not get you far.
- Forgetting accessories: Laser safety goggles matched to the wavelength for everyone in the room and an extraction unit for the carbon dust are part of the setup. More on this under Laser protection and safety.
- Underestimating training: You learn how to apply the lotion, choose the energy and spare the brows and hairline in the training session, and in more depth at the SIAC Akademie.
- Not clarifying the requirements: Who may perform which laser treatment is regulated differently from country to country; in Germany, the NiSV regulates this. Clarify the requirements for your specific case with the responsible authority or your professional association before you order.
Checklist before buying
- Q-switch Nd:YAG with 1064 nm and a stated pulse duration
- Energy range, frequency and spot suitable for working over large areas of the face
- Other treatments you want to offer with the same device
- Shot allowance and costs afterwards in writing
- Warranty, service and spare parts supply (with SIACSKIN 2 years warranty, service from Düsseldorf)
- Training and instruction included
- Safety goggles, extraction unit and room prepared
- Financing clarified: leasing, rent-to-own, loan or purchase

Frequently asked questions
Which device do I need for carbon peeling?
A Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with 1064 nm and finely adjustable energy. At SIACSKIN, the PICOLO S is the entry-level device; the PICOLO L and PICOLO XL also handle carbon peeling.
What does a carbon peeling device cost per month?
As a leasing example over 60 months, the PICOLO S starts from approx. €130 per month, the PICOLO L from approx. €690 and the PICOLO XL from approx. €1,000, in each case net and subject to credit approval.
Is a device only for carbon peeling worthwhile?
Usually a device that covers several treatments pays off. With the PICOLO S you offer permanent makeup removal and pigment treatments in addition to carbon peeling and so keep the device busier.
Can I do carbon peeling with an IPL or BBL device?
No, these light systems are not intended for it. Carbon peeling needs the very short pulses of a Q-switch laser. A BBL device such as the DERMAFORCE BBL PRO is a good complement to carbon peeling, however, for example for redness and pigment.
Can I test the carbon peeling device before buying?
Yes. At the showroom in Düsseldorf you can view and test the PICOLO lasers by appointment. You arrange the appointment through the free consultation.
All rates net, example calculation over a 60-month term, subject to credit approval. As of October 2026.
