Laser Device: Rent, Rent-to-Own or Lease? The Models Compared

Do you want to rent a laser device instead of buying it right away? Then you choose between rental, rent-to-own and leasing. The three models sound similar but differ in who owns the device at the end, how long you are committed and how flexible you stay. As the manufacturer, SIACSKIN offers purchase, rental, leasing and rent-to-own through its own house bank, with no down payment if you wish and also for business start-ups. This page helps you find the right model. The guide Leasing or financing a laser device explains the rate, documents and credit check.

Four ways to a laser device at a glance

The table shows the basics. What applies in your individual case is always set out in your contract.

Model Who owns the device? Commitment At the end of the term Suits you if …
Purchase you, from delivery none (with a loan: loan term) Device belongs to you you have capital or a loan and will use the device long term
Rental the lessor per contract Purchase option: you can buy the device you do not want to commit permanently
Leasing initially the leasing company fixed term, usually 36 to 60 months Device belongs to you you want a fixed, predictable rate
Rent-to-own initially the financing partner fixed term Device becomes your property with the last payment you want to be certain of ownership at the end

Renting a laser device: when rental makes sense

With rental, you use the device for a monthly fee, and the lessor remains the owner. That can work if you first want to try out a new treatment or your location is not yet settled. But do not compare a rental on the monthly rate alone. Before signing, ask about:

  • Minimum term and termination: From when and with what notice period can you end it?
  • Services: Are maintenance, service and insurance included or do they come on top?
  • Purchase option: Can you take over the device later, and are payments already made credited?
  • Total of all payments: What do you pay over the entire period of use, compared with leasing or rent-to-own?

With SIACSKIN, you receive the terms for rental and rent-to-own on request, tailored to device, term and creditworthiness.

Renting a diode laser for hair removal: what matters

If you want to rent a diode laser or a laser hair removal device, you should factor in the treatment rhythm. Hair removal usually takes 6 to 8 sessions per client, spread over several months. The device therefore has to be reliably available in your salon over that period. A device available only by the day is a poor fit for series, because follow-up appointments depend on the client's hair cycle.

For hair removal at SIACSKIN, two lasers are in particular demand: the DEWEON 4LD with four wavelengths (755, 808, 940 and 1064 nm) and 6000 W, and the AlexDUAL UFO with alexandrite 755 nm and Nd:YAG 1064 nm. If you want to rent an alexandrite laser, you will find the technical differences in the alexandrite laser buying guide, and for the diode laser in the diode laser buying guide.

Rent-to-own: ownership in installments

With rent-to-own, you pay fixed installments, and with the last one the device is yours. For a laser device with a long service life, that is an obvious route: the DEWEON 4LD handpiece is designed for over 100 million shots, so the device generally keeps working after the last installment. How to plan care and maintenance over the years is covered under Maintenance and service life.

The rates you can expect

For leasing there are example rates over 60 months; for rental and rent-to-own, SIACSKIN prepares an individual offer via Financing and leasing.

Liquidity, balance sheet and tax: just the basic principle

All installment models protect your liquidity: you do not pay all at once, and your equity stays free for setup and marketing. On the balance sheet and for tax purposes, the models are treated differently: rental and leasing payments are often treated as current expenses, whereas a device that is purchased or acquired through rent-to-own is generally attributed to you and depreciated. Whether and how this applies to you depends on the contract, legal form and country. This page is not tax or legal advice: clarify the details with your tax advisor before you sign.

Four questions for your decision

  1. Do you want to be the owner at the end? Then purchase, leasing or rent-to-own are the direct routes.
  2. How certain is the demand? For a proven offering, a fixed term has much to recommend it; for a trial, a more flexible solution.
  3. How long do you want to use the device? The term should never be longer than the planned use.
  4. What does your tax advisor say? They can see which model fits your situation.

Whether a device pays off for your salon at all is shown in the guide Is a laser device worth it?. If you are just starting up, you will find the whole roadmap under Opening a laser studio.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent a laser device instead of buying it?

Yes. Besides purchase and leasing, SIACSKIN also offers rental and rent-to-own through the house bank, also for business start-ups and with no down payment if you wish. You receive the terms for rental and rent-to-own on request, depending on device, term and creditworthiness.

What is the difference between rental and rent-to-own?

With rental, the device remains the lessor's property during the term, and at the end of the term you can buy it (purchase option). With rent-to-own, the device becomes your property with the last installment. If you want to use the device long term, rent-to-own is therefore often the more direct route.

Can I rent a diode laser for hair removal?

Yes, the DEWEON 4LD is also available for rental or rent-to-own, with terms on request. As a leasing example it starts from approx. €470 per month. Plan so that the device is available throughout your clients' entire treatment series.

Can I rent an alexandrite laser?

Yes, rental, rent-to-own and leasing are possible for the AlexDUAL UFO. The example leasing rate starts from approx. €1,190 per month; rental and rent-to-own are offered individually.

Is rental or leasing cheaper for tax purposes than buying?

That cannot be said across the board. The models are treated differently on the balance sheet and for tax purposes, and it depends on the contract, legal form and country. Have your tax advisor run the numbers on the options.
