Buy a Skin Analysis Device: Buying Guide for Salons and Practices
Are you looking to buy a skin analysis device because your consultations have so far relied mainly on experience and the naked eye? A good device makes findings visible that are otherwise hard to convey in conversation, and documents how the skin changes over a treatment series. This buying guide shows you what an AI skin analysis measures, which criteria count when buying and how to build the device into your consultation process so that clients understand the benefit. The Skin Analyzer Pro from SIACSKIN serves as the example.
What a skin analysis device is used for in the salon
A skin scanner is not a treatment device but a tool for three tasks that every salon and practice performs daily:
- Consultation: Instead of a subjective assessment, your client sees her findings herself on the display, including those not yet visible to the naked eye. This creates a shared basis for the treatment recommendation.
- Progress documentation: Analyses are saved and can be compared as a before-and-after across several sessions. You can export results as a report and add them to the client file.
- Selling treatment packages: From the findings you can derive transparently which treatment and how many sessions make sense. Visible progress in the comparison motivates the next appointment, and based on the analysis you recommend care products from the Aftercare collection.
What an AI skin analysis measures
The Skin Analyzer Pro works with a multispectral camera that captures the skin under three types of light. Each type of light reveals different skin characteristics:
| Type of light | What becomes visible |
|---|---|
| White light | Surface: wrinkles, pores, skin texture and visible pigmentation |
| UV light | Pigment in deeper layers, sebum and sun damage not yet visible to the naked eye |
| Polarized light | Vessels, redness and inflammation beneath the surface |
The AI evaluates the images automatically and assesses wrinkles, pores, pigment, UV damage, redness, vessels and elasticity as well as moisture and sebum. It compares new images with earlier analyses of the same client. Important for your communication: the analysis is a basis for decisions in consultation and treatment planning; responsibility for the treatment remains with you as the practitioner. More on this on the page AI and skin analysis in the laser device.
Criteria for choosing a skin analysis device
- Light sources: A device that works only with white light essentially shows what you see anyway. Only UV and polarized light make deeper pigment, sun damage and vessels visible.
- Scope of evaluation: Check which parameters the device assesses and whether they fit your treatments, for example pigment for laser treatments or redness for light treatments.
- Reproducibility: A before-and-after comparison is only meaningful if the images are taken under the same conditions. Guided image capture helps with this.
- Saving, comparing, exporting: Without a client database and export function, the analysis remains a snapshot.
- Use during the conversation: A large touch display that you and your client look at together is worth more in everyday consultation than software alone on a laptop.
- Training and service: Ask whether the training also shows how to integrate the analysis into the consultation, and who handles maintenance and support.
Standalone skin scanner or skin analysis in the laser device?
There are two approaches here that complement each other. The DEWEON 4LD has an integrated AI skin analyzer: together with the SIA AI it recognizes skin and hair type and sets the parameters for hair removal automatically. This analysis serves to set the laser safely during the treatment. Leasing from approx. €470 per month.
The Skin Analyzer Pro, by contrast, is a standalone device for consultation. It accompanies all treatments in your salon, that is laser, BBL, RF microneedling, HIFU and skincare, from the initial consultation to the success check. If you already use a DEWEON 4LD, the Skin Analyzer Pro complements the documentation and consultation for the rest of your offering.
How to build skin analysis into your consultation process
- Initial image: Before the first treatment you analyze the skin and determine the skin type (Fitzpatrick skin types).
- Discuss the findings together: Show the images on the display and explain what the individual types of light reveal.
- Derive a treatment plan: for example skin rejuvenation with the DERMAFORCE BBL PRO or pigment treatment with the TULIX. How procedures can be combined is explained on the page Combination treatment.
- Follow-up images: Repeat the analysis at fixed intervals during the series and compare it with the initial image.
- Care recommendation and report: Derive home care from the findings (Aftercare guide) and file the report in the client record.
