Buy a Diode Laser: Buying Guide with Checklist and Costs

Do you want to buy a diode laser and are comparing offers that all look similar on paper? This buying guide shows you which technical data really matter in a diode laser for hair removal, how to interpret power figures, what is behind terms like “SHR” and which mistakes become expensive when buying. By the end you will know which SIACSKIN device suits your salon and what monthly rate to expect. General questions about purchase, leasing and service are answered on the page Buying a laser device; here the focus is specifically on the diode laser.

The most important criteria when buying a diode laser

The following table is your comparison list for every offer. In the right-hand column you see the values of the DEWEON 4LD as a reference point.

Criterion What to look for How it is with the DEWEON 4LD
Wavelengths A single wavelength does not reach all hair thicknesses and follicle depths equally well. Combinations cover several depths. 755, 808, 940 and 1064 nm combined
Power Ask whether the wattage figure applies at the handpiece or only to the whole system. 6000 W, also at the handpiece
Spot sizes Small spots for the upper lip and underarms, large ones for legs and back. A single spot costs treatment time. four spots from 15 × 15 to 15 × 40 mm
Frequency and pulse duration Determine the speed on large areas and the adaptation to fine or coarse hair. up to 30 Hz, pulse duration 1–200 ms
Cooling Determines comfort and therefore whether clients finish their series. adjustable ice-sapphire cooling down to –50 °C
Shot allowance Clarify the shot limit and the cost of a new handpiece in writing before buying. no shot limit, designed for over 100 million shots
Software Parameter assistance reduces setting errors, especially with new staff. AI skin analyzer, SIA AI, client management
Marking Ask to see the device's marking and documents. CE-marked under MDR · FDA

Reading power figures correctly

Wattage is what is advertised most often. What matters, however, is how much energy arrives at the spot in the right pulse duration and whether the cooling keeps up. So ask about the power at the handpiece, the pulse duration range, and the frequency at which full energy is still available. How the individual wavelengths act in the tissue is explained on the page Laser wavelengths explained.

SHR diode laser: what is behind the term

“SHR” stands for Super Hair Removal. The manufacturer Alma Lasers uses it to describe its patented method: low energy per pulse at a high repetition rate, the handpiece is guided over the skin in a gliding motion (in-motion), and the heat in the tissue builds up gradually. On the market, the term also appears as a general label for fast diode lasers. If an offer advertises “SHR”, do not compare the label but the values behind it: maximum repetition rate, pulse duration range, energy at high frequency and spot size.

Not to be confused with SHR is the SR-Technology of the DEWEON 4LD. This is a red-light diode with 4000 W and 30 Hz, with which you offer skin rejuvenation in the same device. Which working method on the device suits which zone, you learn in the training session and at the SIAC Akademie.

Which SIACSKIN device suits your salon?

  • DEWEON 4LD: the diode laser for most salons. Particularly effective on dark, coarse hair and suitable for nearly all skin types, except very dark skin. Leasing from approx. €470 per month.
  • VCL DERMALIGHT: not a laser but an LED system with 755–890 nm for light, blonde and fine hair as well as vellus hair. It is not intended for dark or coarse hair, but is ideal as a complement to the diode laser. From approx. €190 per month. More on this: LED hair removal for light hair.
  • AlexDUAL UFO: alexandrite 755 nm and Nd:YAG 1064 nm for all skin types I to VI, so also for very dark skin, plus pigment, vascular and tightening treatments. From approx. €1,190 per month. You will find the technology comparison under Diode laser or alexandrite laser.

Before buying, check your clients' skin types (Fitzpatrick skin types).

Costs and monthly rate

Instead of a purchase price, we give you example leasing rates, net over a 60-month term: DEWEON 4LD from approx. €470, VCL DERMALIGHT from approx. €190 and AlexDUAL UFO from approx. €1,190 per month. Financing is arranged through our house bank as leasing, rent-to-own, loan or purchase, with no down payment if you wish and also for business start-ups, subject to credit approval. More on this: Leasing or financing a laser device.

Example with assumptions: Suppose a treatment brings you €80 net after deducting gel and consumption. Then around 6 treatments a month cover the example rate of approx. €470. Price and costs are only assumed here. Run the numbers with your own figures in the price calculator. Since the DEWEON 4LD works without a shot limit, there are no costs for shot allowances. Still, factor in maintenance, electricity and safety goggles.

Common mistakes when buying a diode laser

  • Looking only at wattage: without a handpiece figure, without pulse duration and without cooling, it is not comparable.
  • Overlooking the shot limit: A cheap offer becomes expensive if a new handpiece is due after a certain number of shots.
  • Promising results on light hair: Lasers need melanin in the hair. White, gray and red hair hardly respond to light, and light and fine hair only to a limited extent. Advise honestly and offer the VCL DERMALIGHT for light, fine hair.
  • Not checking the power supply: With 6000 W total power, a qualified electrician should check before delivery whether a suitably fused circuit is available.
  • Leaving qualification unclear: Who may perform which treatment is regulated differently from country to country; in Germany, the NiSV regulates this. Clarify the requirements for your specific case before you order.

Checklist before ordering

  1. Noted your clients' skin types and hair colors?
  2. Compared wavelengths, power at the handpiece and spot sizes?
  3. Clarified the shot limit and the cost of a handpiece replacement in writing?
  4. Tested the device and cooling at the showroom in Düsseldorf?
  5. Checked the power connection and room (Opening a laser studio)?
  6. Calculated the monthly rate with your own utilization in the price calculator?

SIACSKIN builds its devices itself in Germany: 2-year warranty, training through the SIAC Akademie, service from Düsseldorf.

Frequently asked questions

What does a diode laser for hair removal cost per month?

The DEWEON 4LD is available on leasing from approx. €470 net per month over 60 months, subject to credit approval. Whether the rate pays for itself depends on your prices and utilization. You can work that out in the price calculator.

Which diode laser is suitable for all skin types?

The DEWEON 4LD with four wavelengths is suitable for nearly all skin types, except very dark skin. For very dark skin types we recommend the AlexDUAL UFO with Nd:YAG 1064 nm.

What does SHR mean for a diode laser?

SHR stands for Super Hair Removal and describes a method with low energy per pulse, a high repetition rate and a gliding motion of the handpiece. With such offers, compare the technical values such as frequency, pulse duration and spot size.

Can I test the diode laser before buying?

Yes, at the SIACSKIN showroom in Düsseldorf by appointment. You arrange the appointment through the free consultation.
