Buy an Alexandrite Laser: Buying Guide for Alexandrite and Nd:YAG
Anyone who wants to buy an alexandrite laser usually opts for premium-level hair removal and for a device that can do more than hair. The most important question arises even before the first quote: is a pure alexandrite laser at 755 nm enough, or do you also need the Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm? This buying guide takes you through the criteria that distinguish alexandrite systems from one another, shows typical mistakes and explains how to put the costs into perspective as a monthly rate. How the two wavelengths work is explained in detail on the page Alexandrite laser and Nd:YAG laser.
When an alexandrite laser is worth it
The alexandrite wavelength of 755 nm is absorbed particularly strongly by melanin. That makes it strong on light skin, on finer and lighter hair and on superficial pigment changes. This very strength is the limit on dark skin, because there the epidermis also absorbs a lot of energy. The Nd:YAG wavelength of 1064 nm penetrates deeper and is absorbed less strongly by melanin, which is why it suits darker skin types, deep-seated follicles and vessels. A dual-wave system combines both. Whether an alexandrite or a diode laser is the better choice for your studio is compared on the page Diode laser or alexandrite laser.
Criteria when buying an alexandrite laser
| Criterion | What to look for | How it is with the AlexDUAL UFO |
|---|---|---|
| Wavelengths | Only 755 nm or also 1064 nm? Without Nd:YAG, very dark skin can only be treated to a limited extent. | 755 nm alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG |
| Crystal | The crystal determines beam quality and stability. Ask about origin and lifespan. | Premium alexandrite crystal Alexite™ |
| Power | High power shortens treatment times if spot and cooling keep up. | 7500 W total power |
| Spot | Round spots need overlapping tracks; square ones can be placed without gaps. | square, 10–40 mm |
| Pulse duration | A wide range allows adjustment to fine hair, coarse hair and pigment. | 0.3–100 ms |
| Cooling | Does the system need an external cooling unit? That costs space and money. | 4-fold cooling with compressor, skin cooling integrated |
| Start-up time | Long warm-up times create idle time between appointments. | ready for use in 5 seconds |
| Shots | Clarify shot allowances and repurchase costs beforehand. | up to 100 million shots, no repurchase |
| Assistance | Automatic parameters reduce setting errors and shorten training time. | SIA AI with cameras in the handpiece |
Buying an Nd:YAG laser: long pulse is not the same as Q-switch
Anyone searching for "buy Nd:YAG laser" comes across two fundamentally different types of device with the same wavelength of 1064 nm. For hair removal you need a long-pulsed Nd:YAG with pulses in the millisecond range, as in the AlexDUAL UFO with 0.3 to 100 ms. Q-switch Nd:YAG lasers, by contrast, work with nanosecond pulses and are built for tattoos, pigment and carbon peeling, such as the PICOLO L. The two device types are not interchangeable. With every quote, therefore, read the pulse duration, not just the wavelength.
More than hair removal: additional treatment fields
- With 755 nm: pigmented lesions, pigment and age spots, freckles, seborrheic keratoses and improvement of skin appearance (Pigmentation spots with the laser).
- With 1064 nm: hair removal up to Fitzpatrick VI, skin tightening and skin rejuvenation, vessels and spider veins as well as rosacea (Couperose, rosacea and spider veins).
For your calculation this means: do not count only on hair removal appointments. Every additional treatment field spreads the rate across more appointments.
Costs and monthly rate: what an alexandrite laser costs
With the "alexandrite laser price", it is mainly the crystal, power, cooling system, second wavelength and software that make the difference. We do not state purchase prices, but we do give the example leasing rate: the AlexDUAL UFO is available from approx. €1,190 net per month over a 60-month term. Financing is through our house bank as leasing, hire purchase, loan or purchase, with no down payment on request and also for business start-ups, subject to credit check.
Example with assumptions: If an appointment earns you, say, €100 net after deducting consumable costs, around 12 appointments per month cover the example rate of approx. €1,190. Because there are no shot costs, this value stays stable. Check the calculation with your own figures in the price calculator. If you do not need to treat very dark skin and do not need pigment or vessel therapy, the DEWEON 4LD from approx. €470 per month is the cheaper alternative.
Common mistakes when buying an alexandrite laser
- Buying only alexandrite although the clientele is mixed: Without 1064 nm, you may have to turn darker skin types away.
- Forgetting external cooling: If the system needs a separate cooling unit, space requirements and costs are added.
- Confusing long pulse and Q-switch: A tattoo laser does not remove hair, and a hair removal laser does not remove tattoos.
- Ignoring warm-up time: Every minute of idle time between appointments is missing from the calendar.
- Calculating only hair removal: Anyone who leaves out pigment, vessel and tightening treatments underestimates utilization.
- Deciding without a trial treatment: Have the handpiece, spot and cooling demonstrated to you, ideally in the showroom in Düsseldorf by appointment.

Frequently asked questions
What does an alexandrite laser cost per month?
The AlexDUAL UFO with alexandrite 755 nm and Nd:YAG 1064 nm is available on leasing from approx. €1,190 net per month over a 60-month term, subject to credit check.
Do I need an Nd:YAG laser in addition to the alexandrite?
If you want to treat dark skin types up to Fitzpatrick VI, deep-seated follicles or vessels, yes. In the AlexDUAL UFO, both wavelengths are combined in one device.
Is an alexandrite laser better than a diode laser?
Not across the board. The alexandrite laser is strong on light skin, finer hair and pigment, and with Nd:YAG also on very dark skin. A diode laser such as the DEWEON 4LD covers almost all skin types, with the exception of very dark skin, and has the lower rate.
Can I also remove tattoos with the AlexDUAL UFO?
No. For tattoos you need a laser with very short pulses, that is, a Q-switch or picosecond laser such as the PICOLO L or the PICOLO XL.
Are there follow-up costs for shots with the AlexDUAL UFO?
No. The AlexDUAL UFO is designed for up to 100 million shots, and you do not have to buy shot allowances again.
All rates net, example calculation over a 60-month term, subject to credit check. As of October 2026.
