DEWEON 4LD: frequently asked questions about the four-wavelength diode laser

The DEWEON 4LD is SIACSKIN's diode laser for permanent hair removal: four wavelengths (755, 808, 940 and 1064 nm), 4000 W at the handpiece and an AI skin analyser that selects wavelength and energy automatically.

Here you will find the answers to the questions studios and practices ask before buying: technical data, spot sizes, cooling, skin types, service life of the handpiece, client management system, custom colour, training and monthly instalment. It also includes the comparison with the AlexDUAL UFO and the VCL DERMALIGHT, so that you know which device fits your business.

Which wavelengths does the DEWEON 4LD have and what is each one intended for?

The DEWEON 4LD works with four wavelengths: 755, 808, 940 and 1064 nm. In general terms, the following applies to these ranges: 755 nm is absorbed most strongly by melanin and targets finer, superficial hairs on fair skin. 808 nm is the classic middle ground among diode lasers. 940 nm penetrates deeper and places less strain on the epidermis. 1064 nm reaches the deepest and is the wavelength for dark skin and deep-seated hairs. You do not have to make this choice yourself: the AI skin analyser of the DEWEON 4LD selects wavelength and energy automatically. This allows a single device to be set for all skin types.

How much power does the DEWEON 4LD have?

The DEWEON 4LD has a total power of 6000 W and 4000 W at the handpiece. The two values are stated separately, and that is important: what counts for treatment is what is available in the handpiece. High power at the handpiece means that the device can deliver the required energy in a short time. This allows short pulses that also heat thinner hairs, and keeps the energy per unit area high when you work with the large spot or in the fast in-motion technique. Together with pulses of 1 to 200 ms and up to 30 Hz, the DEWEON 4LD thus has what it takes for large areas such as the legs and back.

Which spot sizes does the DEWEON 4LD have and which suits which area?

The DEWEON 4LD offers four spot sizes: 15 × 15, 15 × 26, 15 × 30 and 15 × 40 mm. The small 15 × 15 mm spot is suitable for the face, underarms, bikini line and all areas with curves and edges. The medium sizes suit the arms, abdomen and chest. With 15 × 40 mm you treat the legs and back in wide passes and save time per appointment. A larger spot also carries the light deeper into the tissue because less is scattered sideways. For the large spot to receive enough energy per unit area, power is required. The DEWEON 4LD provides 4000 W at the handpiece for this.

How does the DEWEON 4LD cool the skin during treatment?

The DEWEON 4LD cools the skin via a sapphire in the handpiece, which reaches as low as minus 50 °C and rests directly on the skin. Behind it is a multi-stage system of thermoelectric cooling (TEC), semiconductor, air and water cooling. The sapphire draws heat from the epidermis while the laser light passes through it to the hair. This protects the skin surface and makes treatment more comfortable, particularly in sensitive areas. Anyone wishing to cool additionally with cold air before and after the pulse can add the KYROMASTER. It is suitable for diode lasers, cools down to minus 50 °C and requires no consumables.

What pulse duration and repetition rate does the DEWEON 4LD offer?

The DEWEON 4LD works with pulses of 1 to 200 ms and a repetition rate of up to 30 Hz. The wide pulse range is the key to adaptation: short pulses heat finer hairs before the heat dissipates. Long pulses give thick hairs time to conduct the heat down to the root and are gentler on darker skin, because the epidermis can release heat in the meantime. The repetition rate determines the working speed. With up to 30 pulses per second, the handpiece glides swiftly over large areas. The SIA AI sets the energy to suit skin type and body area. You continue to assess the skin reaction after the test pulse yourself.

Which skin types and hair types is the DEWEON 4LD suitable for?

The DEWEON 4LD is designed for all skin types and for pigmented hair. This is made possible by the four wavelengths: 755 and 808 nm are available for fair skin, and 940 and 1064 nm, which place less strain on the epidermis, for darker skin types. Dark blonde to black hairs respond best, especially medium and coarse ones. Melanin sets the limits: a diode laser has only a weak effect on very light, blonde hairs and vellus hair, and white, grey and red hairs barely respond to light and laser. For light, blonde and very fine hair, SIACSKIN has the VCL DERMALIGHT. With a fresh tan, the same applies as with any laser: let it fade first, then treat.

What does the AI skin analyser in the DEWEON 4LD do?

The AI skin analyser of the DEWEON 4LD selects wavelength and energy automatically. To do so, the SIA AI sets skin type, body area and energy, so that you do not have to work out from tables which of the four wavelengths suits a client. This shortens preparation, helps new members of staff and reduces the risk of starting with an unsuitable setting. The responsibility remains with you. A test pulse is part of the procedure before every new area, and you assess the skin's reaction yourself: slight redness and small swellings around the follicles are desired, whereas marked redness or persistent pain are a signal to interrupt the treatment and check the setting.

How long does the handpiece of the DEWEON 4LD last?

The handpiece of the DEWEON 4LD is designed for around 100 million shots. The laser diodes are located in the handpiece, so it is the component that ages over the years in a diode laser. At 30,000 shots per working day and 250 working days per year, this figure would only be reached after a good 13 years. The client management system counts the shots, so you know the current status and can track how heavily the device is being used. How long a handpiece actually lasts also depends on care: clean the sapphire after every treatment and make sure the cooling water is clean. SIACSKIN provides a 2-year manufacturer's warranty, offers regular maintenance and generally supplies spare parts within a few days.

What functions does the client management system in the DEWEON 4LD have?

The client management system in the DEWEON 4LD stores client data, documents the areas treated and counts the shots. At every appointment you can therefore see which area was treated when and can pick up from the last session, even if a colleague takes over. The shot counter shows how many shots have been delivered and how heavily the device is being used. For a studio, this documentation is more than a convenience: it makes a course of 6 to 8 sessions traceable and is the basis when a client returns months later for a top-up session. In addition, SIACSKIN offers a cloud platform for managing and evaluating before-and-after images.

Can I order the DEWEON 4LD in my studio's colour?

Yes, you can get the DEWEON 4LD in the colour of your choice at no extra charge. It is painted according to the Pantone colour guide with over 2,000 colours, so you can match the shade of your logo or your interior. The housing is made of aluminium. For a studio this is more than a matter of appearance: the device stands in the treatment room in view of every client and appears in photos and videos. In your own colours it looks like part of your brand. It is best to state the desired shade straight away when you make your enquiry, for example in the free consultation.

Who is the DEWEON 4LD the right first laser device for?

The DEWEON 4LD is the right first device for studios and practices that are starting out with hair removal and do not want to turn anyone away because of their skin type. Hair removal is among the most frequently requested laser treatments, brings recurring appointments and fills the diary predictably. With four wavelengths, a single device covers all skin types, and the AI skin analyser makes getting started easier. The overall package fits as well: instalments from approx. €470 per month, training and installation included, a 2-year manufacturer's warranty. It is less suitable as the only device if your clientele mainly has light, blonde hair. The VCL DERMALIGHT is intended for that.

When should I choose the DEWEON 4LD and when the AlexDUAL UFO?

Choose the DEWEON 4LD if you want to treat a broad clientele with one device and a manageable instalment, and the AlexDUAL UFO if hair removal is your focus with high utilisation. Three questions help with the decision. How much budget is available? The DEWEON 4LD is available from approx. €470 per month, the AlexDUAL UFO from approx. €1,190 per month. What kind of hair does your clientele have? For pigmented hair on all skin types the diode laser is sufficient, whereas with a lot of fine, dark blonde hair on fair skin the alexandrite laser shows its strength. And how full is your diary? The square spots of up to 40 mm pay off above all with many large areas per day. An obvious route: start with the DEWEON 4LD and add the AlexDUAL UFO once appointments are consistently fully booked.

What is the difference between the DEWEON 4LD and the VCL DERMALIGHT?

The DEWEON 4LD is a diode laser for pigmented hair on all skin types, the VCL DERMALIGHT an LED system for light, blonde and fine hair as well as vellus hair. The two complement each other. The DEWEON 4LD works with four laser wavelengths and 4000 W at the handpiece and is the device for dark and coarse hair. The VCL DERMALIGHT is not a laser, uses a spectrum of 750 to 890 nm and is not intended for dark or thick hair. In practice this means: the DEWEON 4LD handles the majority of the clientele. The VCL DERMALIGHT is added when many clients with blonde hair enquire or when light vellus hair remains after a course of laser treatment.
