The PICOLO XL is our most powerful device for tattoo removal and our top solution for laser aesthetics: a true 280 ps picosecond laser that combines pico and long-pulse technology in one system. With up to 3600 mJ of energy and 6500 W of power, it shatters pigments with particularly low stress on the surrounding tissue – from dark, deep-seated tattoos to melasma and age spots.

Four wavelengths – 532, 755, 1064 and 1320 nm, optionally complemented by 585 and 650 nm –, four modes and seven handpieces make the PICOLO XL a platform that grows with your range of treatments. Besides tattoo and pigment removal, you cover skin rejuvenation, acne, pores, carbon peeling, vascular redness and, in Long Pulse mode, even hair removal.

Technology and mode of action

The shorter a laser pulse, the more photoacoustic rather than thermal its effect. At 280 picoseconds, the pulse of the PICOLO XL is around a thousand times shorter than a nanosecond. The energy hits the pigment so abruptly that a pressure wave breaks it into particularly fine particles, which the body clears via the lymphatic system. Because hardly any heat is released into the surrounding tissue, the skin is largely spared – with complex, multicoloured tattoos, fewer sessions are therefore often needed.

In Long Pulse mode the energy is delivered over a longer period and acts in a targeted thermal way – ideal for hair removal and for stimulating the skin for rejuvenation. Fractional handpieces and the 755 nm honeycomb distribute the energy into many micro-zones that trigger the skin's regeneration. Multi Pulse mode is designed for carbon peeling.

A German laser source with long-life rods ensures high energy and wavelength stability. The 360° rotatable laser arm with over 95% transmission allows ergonomic work on any body region, and the stable construction with a total weight of 255 kg ensures vibration-free pulses. A four-fold cooling system of water, air, TEC and compressor cooling keeps the temperature constant even during long sessions.

Frequently asked questions about the PICOLO XL

What is the difference between a picosecond and a Q-Switch laser?
The PICOLO XL works with 280 ps instead of nanosecond pulses. The shorter pulse has a stronger photoacoustic effect, breaks pigments down more finely and places particularly little stress on the surrounding tissue.

What can the PICOLO XL do besides tattoo removal?
Melasma, chloasma, age spots, acne, pores, skin rejuvenation, carbon peeling, hair removal in Long Pulse mode and – with the optional dye handpiece – vascular redness.

Are coloured tattoos removed too?
Yes. With 1064 nm, 532 nm and the other wavelengths, the PICOLO XL treats tattoos of all colours. The number of sessions depends on the colour, depth and age of the tattoo.

How quickly does the PICOLO XL pay for itself?
