Buy a Thulium Laser: Buying Guide to the 1927 nm Fractional Laser

Are you looking to buy a thulium laser and wondering what the 1927 nm wavelength really delivers in everyday salon or practice use? In aesthetics, a thulium laser is usually a non-ablative fractional laser: it creates microscopically fine treatment zones in the uppermost layer of the skin without removing the skin surface. That makes it interesting for pigmentation disorders, sun-damaged skin and a more even complexion with little downtime. In this buying guide you will learn how 1927 nm works, why a second wavelength makes sense, how the thulium laser differs from the CO2 laser and from BBL, and what to look for when buying.

How a 1927 nm thulium laser works

Light at 1927 nm is strongly absorbed by water in the tissue and therefore acts superficially, in the epidermis. That is exactly where many pigmentation disorders arise. The laser creates a grid of tiny treatment zones, and the tissue in between stays intact. From these healthy skin bridges, the body's own regeneration starts: the microzones close, new collagen is formed and the skin's appearance renews itself step by step. Because the surface is not removed, it is called non-ablative, and downtime stays low. The basics are explained on the page Thulium laser: non-ablative skin renewal.

Why the TULIX also uses 1550 nm erbium glass

A pure 1927 nm laser mainly reaches the surface. For scars, fine lines and enlarged pores, a deeper effect in the dermis is needed. The TULIX therefore combines 1927 nm thulium with 1550 nm erbium glass in one platform. Both wavelengths can be used individually or combined:

  • Thulium 1927 nm (epidermis): melasma and hyperpigmentation, age spots, sun-damaged skin, skin brightening and actinic keratoses in the medical field.
  • Erbium 1550 nm (dermis): acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores.
  • Both combined: skin resurfacing in two skin layers in one session, acne, dark circles and scalp treatments.

For you, that means pigment, scars and anti-aging all run through one device. You can find more on scar treatments under Acne scars and scars with laser.

Thulium laser, CO2 laser or BBL?

Before buying, it is worth asking honestly which skin concern your clients bring most often. The three technologies complement each other rather than replace one another:

Technology Mode of action Typical focus areas Downtime Rate from
TULIX (thulium 1927 + erbium 1550 nm) non-ablative fractional, surface stays intact Pigment, melasma, sun-damaged skin, scars, pores low approx. €600
FRACO CO2 XL (10,600 nm, 100 W) ablative fractional, removes tissue in microzones Wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, warts and keratoses, feminine lift classically 10–14 days, often 3–4 days with the CoolPeel® procedure approx. €800
DERMAFORCE BBL PRO (400–800 nm) BroadBand Light with 9 filters, heat effect on melanin and hemoglobin Pigment spots, redness, couperose, acne, skin rejuvenation none approx. €450

The FRACO CO2 XL is the tool for deeper skin renewal and pronounced scars, the TULIX the gentler alternative when downtime is hardly acceptable to your clients. According to the manufacturer's description, the TULIX is an ideal complement to ablative systems such as the FRACO CO2 XL. You can read the direct comparison under Thulium laser or CO2 laser. The DERMAFORCE BBL PRO works not fractionally but across the whole area with light, and is strong for redness and vascular changes that a thulium laser does not address. More on this: Thulium laser or BBL.

Thulium laser in a beauty salon, practice or clinic

The TULIX is intended for practices, clinics and professional salons that want to offer pigment treatments and anti-aging economically and with documentation. For a beauty salon focused on skin condition, the combination of low downtime, short treatment time and no consumables is especially interesting. Individual indications such as actinic keratoses belong in the medical field. Who may perform which laser application is regulated in Germany by the NiSV. Clarify the requirements for your specific case before ordering; background on safety goggles and the room can be found under Laser protection and safety.

Costs as a monthly rate

We do not state purchase prices. The example leasing rate for the TULIX is approx. €600 net per month over 60 months. For comparison: FRACO CO2 XL from approx. €800, DERMAFORCE BBL PRO from approx. €450 per month. Financing is arranged through our house bank as leasing, rent-to-own, loan or purchase, with no down payment if you wish, and also for business start-ups, subject to credit approval. Details: Leasing or financing a laser device.

Example with assumptions: Suppose a fractional facial treatment brings you €150 net after deducting your costs. Since the TULIX has no consumables, four treatments a month cover the rate in this example. The figures are assumptions only. Run the numbers with your own prices and utilization in the price calculator.

Checklist before buying a thulium laser

  1. Is the 1927 nm wavelength a true thulium laser source, and is there a second wavelength for the dermis?
  2. How large are the spot, scan field and scan speed, and how long does a full face take?
  3. Which protective functions against double treatment and overheating are built in?
  4. Are there consumables or shot limits?
  5. Is there software with documentation and protocols by skin type?
  6. Are training, instruction through the SIAC Akademie and service from Germany included?

SIACSKIN builds the TULIX itself, with a 2-year warranty, service from Düsseldorf and on-site training. At the showroom in Düsseldorf you can view and test the device by appointment. If your focus is on pigment spots, the pigment laser buying guide will also help; for ablative systems, the CO2 laser buying guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is a non-ablative fractional laser?

A laser that heats the skin in a grid of fine microzones without removing the skin surface. The tissue between the zones stays intact and supports regeneration. That is why downtime is lower than with ablative procedures such as the CO2 laser.

What is a 1927 nm laser used for?

Mainly for superficial changes in the epidermis: hyperpigmentation, melasma, age spots, sun-damaged skin and skin brightening. With the TULIX, 1550 nm erbium glass adds scars, fine lines and pores.

Thulium laser or CO2 laser: which is better?

That depends on the goal. The CO2 laser works ablatively and is suited to deeper skin renewal and pronounced scars, with longer healing. The thulium laser is non-ablative and gentler, with low downtime. Many practices use both as complements. Details: Thulium laser or CO2 laser.

Which skin types is the TULIX designed for?

According to the manufacturer's description, the TULIX is designed as a non-ablative fractional laser for all skin types. The software includes a protocol library by Fitzpatrick type. You always choose the parameters individually according to skin condition and skin type.

What does a thulium laser cost per month?

The TULIX is available as leasing from approx. €600 net per month over 60 months, subject to credit approval. There are no consumables and no per-shot costs. You can run your own calculation in the price calculator.

All rates net, example calculation over a 60-month term, subject to credit approval. As of October 2026.
