Technology and mode of action

The 10,600 nm CO2 laser is absorbed very strongly by the water in tissue. In fractional mode, the FRACO CO2 XL therefore creates microscopically fine treatment zones while the tissue in between stays intact. From these healthy skin bridges, the body's own regeneration begins: the microzones close, new collagen is formed (neocollagenesis) and the skin renews itself step by step – for firmer-looking skin, softened wrinkles and improved scars. Ultra-short light pulses allow very high penetration depth.

Spot sizes up to 20 × 20 mm enable fast treatment of large areas, and pulse widths from 0.1 to 100 ms allow fine-tuned control. The scan modes sequential, random and center-out distribute the energy evenly and prevent heat buildup in the tissue.

CoolPeel® / Weekend CO2: In the CoolPeel® method, the FRACO CO2 XL works with ultra-short, high-energy pulses in the microsecond range. The pulse duration is below the thermal relaxation time of the tissue – the energy is delivered before heat can diffuse into the depth. The result is precise ablation of the upper epidermal layers with minimal residual heat in the surrounding tissue.

The clinical difference lies in the zone of thermal damage. Classic fractional CO2 resurfacing works with longer pulses and a higher heat load, which unnecessarily stresses deeper epidermal layers and the stratum basale as well. This is exactly what causes the long redness phase, crusting and the increased PIH risk. CoolPeel® achieves the desired improvement in texture, pores and fine lines through the same mechanism – controlled fractional ablation followed by neocollagenesis – but avoids the excess collateral thermal damage. Regeneration starts from an intact basal layer.

For your clients, this means: instead of the usual 10 to 14 days of healing, the skin is presentable again after 3 to 4 days. Treatment on Friday, back at the office on Monday – hence Weekend CO2. The prerequisite is suitable skincare during aftercare.
